How Does Prop Trading Work in Nigeria?
There are proprietary trading firms that allow individuals to use funded capital only after they successfully pass certain tests. Instead of putting down their own money into a trading account, the trader proves his ability to trade profitably during some simulated or live test.
Prop trading companies are quite popular in Nigeria because there are lots of skilled retail traders in Nigeria who can not afford substantial personal trading capital.
What is a Funded Trading Account?
In its essence, a funded trading account refers to the account offered by a prop firm, which has funds belonging to the firm instead of the trader's funds. Traders are given a chance to trade forex, indices, commodities, or crypto according to the prop firm's conditions. The earnings generated from trades are distributed between the prop firm and the trader, who is able to earn up to 70% or 90% of profits.
Risk management is the main feature of a funded trading account. Risk management includes observing certain rules regarding the amount of the daily loss, maximum drawdown percentage, and profit target among others. Breaking any of these conditions results in the suspension or restart of the account.
How Prop Firms Work for Nigerian Traders
Joining a prop firm is generally an easy process yet very well-structured one. To begin with, the trader should choose a suitable prop firm and buy an evaluation challenge. Evaluation challenges are used to prove the trader's ability to earn money while limiting risks.

It is favored by many Nigerian traders as it eliminates the requirement for huge amounts of capital. In the Nigerian traders’ world, the focus remains solely on the strategies involved and self-discipline.

People lose because they try to overcome obstacles too quickly without considering their profitability.
The next difficulty relates to the restriction of rules. After gaining an opportunity to trade with funds from your account, you still need to follow certain terms of cooperation, otherwise your account might be closed even if you are making profits at the moment.
Finally, psychological tension should not be underestimated. Trading with a funded account means constant surveillance, and this may lead to overthinking of each step.
